Widevine adds enhanced seek capabilities to Cypher for Digital Media
June 5, 2008 - US content protection firm Widevine Technologies has introduced enhanced seek and player control capabilities for its Cypher for Digital Media solution for H.264 Flash progressive downloaded content (PDL) delivered via over-the-top Internet access, allowing users to jump forward or backwards in downloaded content, regardless of the download buffer.
The new seek capabilities enable Adobe enhanced player controls on progressive downloaded H.264 Flash content when using Adobe Player, and Widevine adds that it supports other major video formats, including Flash, Microsoft Windows Media, H.264, MPEG2, VP-6, VP-7, Flash Lite and Silverlight. The enhancements are intended to enable over-the-top video providers to offer the same consumer experience available to service providers using more costly streaming platforms.
“With over 100 million PDL servers in use today Widevine’s enhanced seek provides Internet video operators an easy way to deliver high quality video experiences with existing infrastructures,” said Matt Cannard, VP of Marketing for Widevine. “With the resurgence of Internet video we find ourselves yet again in a unique position to provide multiplatform and multiformat digital media content protection that offers large operational savings as well."
