June 3, 2008 - Following today's story on a deal struck between Indian ISP Aksh Optifibre and local telco Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) to deliver IPTV services via the latter's broadband network, more details have emerged on the agreement.

Aksh Optifibre will be delivering IPTV services to cities in northern parts of India, spanning Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.  The ISP aims to acquire 10,000 subscribers for the IPTV service within a nine month period, and projects the cost of acquiring and creating content to be around INR 5bn (US$ 117mn).

Dr. Kailash Choudhari, Managing Director of Aksh Optifibre, commented: “It is our endeavour to provide cost effective services to the masses and also to enter into tier II and III cities along with rural areas, giving them full rights to interactive entertainment in true sense establishing IPTV as the most competitive platform”.
