YES ponders restart of IPTV & VOD trials

June 2, 2008 - Israeli satellite broadcaster YES is considering restarting trials of IPTV and video on demand services with its parent company Bezeq, according to reports.

YES previously suspended its trials when former Bezeq CEO Yacov Gelbard decided that they were not worthwhile because of regulations imposed by Israel's Ministry of Communications that state Bezeq cannot participate in IPTV and VOD services but YES can, provided that Bezeq's infrastructure is made available for all content providers.

However, YES has reportedly decided to reconsider now that Bezeq is preparing to build its next-generation network and Minister of Communications Ariel Atias is expected to announce new regulations for the sector in a few months. A spokesman for YES was not available for comment at the time of publishing.
