Fastweb owner scotches rumours of Tiscali UK takeover
May 29, 2008 - Italian ISP Fastweb is not interested in purchasing the UK operations of Tiscali, according to Fastweb's owner Swisscom.
Swisscom's Chief Executive, Carsten Schloter, also said that Fastweb is yet to decide on whether to make a bid for Tiscali's operations in Italy. "We are not too sure that Tiscali can really complement the strategic positioning of Fastweb. It is something we are looking at. We don't have a firm opinion. For sure, we are not interested in the UK activities."
Tiscali is currently selling off its assets, and Fastweb has previously been indicated by financial sources as a potential bidder. Both Fastweb and Tiscali have expanding IPTV operations in Italy, while Tiscali also offers an IPTV service in the UK with modest subscriber numbers of 36,000 as of the end of last year.
