ZyXEL unveils new range of IP set-top boxes, joins Ericsson IPTV ecosystem
May 16, 2008 - Taiwanese firm ZyXEL has unveiled a new range of IP set-top boxes, as well as announcing that it has joined the Ericsson IPTV development and delvery ecosystem.
The new ZyXEL IP STB range offers both entry-level and high-definition MPEG-4 capable products and is comprised of the STB-1001S, STB-1001H and STB1000. The company reports that support for DVB-T broadcasts and a PVR-capable model are part of its STB roadmap, as well as Technical Report 069 (TR-069) remote management and upgrade capability. ZyXEL also aims to to have its range certified by the Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA), allowing users to share digital content across compatible devices in the home.
Commenting on the deal with Ericsson, Dr. Herman Chen, Assistant VP of the IPAV product division for ZyXEL, said: “Today’s global IP-STB partnership agreement with Ericsson marks a significant milestone for the two firms. As one of an elite group of vendors, ZyXEL will benefit from Ericsson’s global sales channel, while our IP-STB products and technical development capabilities will add significant value to the service providers’ multimedia IPTV proposition.”
