Orange reaches 1.41mn European IPTV subscribers in Q1

May 7, 2008 – Orange has announced in its first quarter results that it reached 1.41mn European subscribers to its IPTV services by the end of March of this year, compared to 770,000 one year previously.

The number of Liveboxes sold across Europe during the first three months of this year reached 6.8mn units, compared to 4.6mn in the same period of last year.  The total number of consumer ADSL broadband subscribers in Europe reached 12mn in the first quarter of this year, up 17.8% year-on-year.  Revenues from the Home Communication Services (HCS) division for pan-European operations reached €5.649bn in the first three months of this year, up 1.3% compared to the same period of the previous year.

Orange also revealed that it had a total of 1.282mn IPTV subscribers in France by the end the first quarter of this year, representing a growth of 72% over the same period of 2007.  Video on demand (VoD) services “surged” to 1.064mn paid-for downloads in the first quarter of this year, compared to 401,000 in the same period of last year.  Orange reported 7.627mn subscribers to its consumer ADSL broadband services in France by the end of March 2008, up 20% from the end of the first quarter of last year, and a total of 5.63mn leased Liveboxes.
