Ericsson anticipates IPTV deployment in Malaysia by 2009April 28, 2008 – Ericsson (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd has revealed it is confident of rolling out the first IPTV deployment in Malaysia by next year, with its Multimedia Marketing Manager Sebastian Barros commenting that the company is in discussions with all of the country’s major operators.
“The major telco operators are renovating their networks in order to build bigger capacity of their bandwidths,” said Mr. Barros, speaking at the Ericsson Malaysia Media Summit. “On top of that, they have expressed interest to have IPTV… to monetise the huge investment in infrastructure side. We really think IPTV will happen, probably next year.” Ericsson’s IPTV offering includes broadcast TV, timeshift TV, online gaming, personal video recording, video on demand, electronic programme guide and interactive advertising. Mr. Barros added that the company aims to add an ‘enriched’ package soon which would include active address book, instant messaging and broadcast reminder via SMS, amongst other features. |
