Comstar Direct posts 47% subscriber growth for Stream TV in 2007
April 18, 2008 – Russian ISP Comstar Direct has reported that the number of subscribers for its “Stream TV” IPTV service rose by 47% last year to reach 122,300.
The company’s total number of broadband subscribers in Moscow reached 695,000, an increase of 81% annually, of which 651,000 were residential customers. The company is currently undertaking “selective” modernisation of the last mile network using fibre to the curb and ADSL2+, with the intention of offering subscribers 24 Mbps connections, as well as new value-added services such as HDTV.
HDTV tests were reportedly launched in parts of Moscow in February of this year, with full commercial launch on the modernised network anticipated for summer of this year. The company has also committed to deployment of a mobile WiMAX network in late 2008, in cooperation with Intel, and reports that it will thus be able to offer a “quintuple” service offering telephony, broadband Internet, high-definition IPTV and WiMAX mobile Internet access.
