Universal Pictures and BT launch PictureBox subscription on demand service
April 18, 2008 – Universal Pictures and BT have entered into an agreement to launch the PictureBox subscription on demand service on BT Vision in the UK.
The PictureBox service will launch on May 5 and offer a selection of current and library feature films, including titles from NBC Universal as well as other suppliers. Subscribers will be able to view films from a selection of 28 titles available at any one time, complementing BT Vision’s current VOD service, with the selection regularly refreshed and new titles added each week.
Highlights of films that will be included on the service include The Bourne Ultimatum, Atonement, Miami Vice, King Kong and The Constant Gardener. The PictureBox service has already launched in Singapore on Singtel’s “mio TV” service, in Poland on ITI Neovision’s “n” service, and in the UK on two other platforms.
“I am delighted to have reached an agreement with NBC Universal to make the PictureBox service available on BT Vision,” said Marc Watson, Commercial Director of BT Vision. “PictureBox represents a significant development for BT Vision, and we are confident that the combination of current and library titles, refreshed on a regular basis, will prove highly popular with our customers.”
Additional territories are reportedly being targeted for future launches, including Europe, Asia and Latin America.
