Chunghwa Telecom selects Harris to deliver fully integrated broadcast system
April 17, 2008 – Harris has announced that Taiwanese telco Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) has selected a fully integrated Harris broadcast solution to support its Multimedia-on-Demand (MOD) TV service.
The equipment will be used to build a new IPTV headend that will support up to 200 channels and a master control room that will oversee five channels of original content. The Harris system will feature a video wall with eight HD plasma display panels driven by 16 CENTRIO multiviewers and will display 400 sources within a single Platinum router.
“CHT’s interactive MOD service provides more choices and better quality to its subscribers, and Harris was the one company that was able to provide everything in one solution to meet CHT’s exacting needs,” said Amy Liu, President of Interactive Digital Technologies (IDT), the dealer and systems integrator for the project. “The CENTRIO multiviewer was the only solution to provide full flexibility in layout design and offered the best quality and feature-set on the market.”
The sale is described as representing a Harris ONE approach solution, including the NEXIO AMP advanced media platform server; the H-Class D-Series playout automation solution; Platinum and Panacea routers; CENTRIO multiviewers; the NEO SuiteView modular multiviewer; the full Icon Series of master control and branding solutions; and NEO and 6800+ modular processing products. Control and monitoring for the system is provided by the Harris NUCLEUS network control panel, CCS Navigator graphical navigation application and Q-SEE monitoring technology.
CHT’s MOD service was launched in March 2004 and now covers 13 cities/counties in Taiwan, with a customer base of around 420,000.
