Aliant adopts MPEG-4 for Aliant TV service

April 11, 2008 – Canadian operator Aliant has announced improvements to its IPTV service “Aliant TV”, including the adoption of MPEG-4 encoding and the ability for subscribers to access the service on up to three television sets in the home.

“Our customer’s favourite shows will be sharper and clearer as a result of our investment in MPEG-4 technology,” said Claudine Langan, Director of Consumer Marketing for Aliant.  “Our customers can now enjoy our value-packed television service on up to three televisions – large or small – delivering a high-quality digital viewing experience.”

Aliant TV offers 70 television channels and 98 radio and music stations, as well as a choice of 14 themed packages and movies, for $29 per month for the first 12 months and $39 thereafter.  The company has invested $370mn since 2000 in building and maintaining its broadband network for the delivery of Internet and enhanced services.
