Global IPTV infrastructure market poised for “solid growth”, finds Frost & Sullivan
April 7, 2008 – The global IPTV infrastructure market is poised for “solid growth”, Frost & Sullivan has reported as part of a new study on the sector.
The growth forecasted is attributed to increased activity in fibre roll-outs driven primarily by existing and potential video services, and intense competition among communication service providers (CSPs).
“Video services (initially broadcast and ultimately interactive) are essential for CSPs to retain the status of a preferred CSP of consumer services,” said Prayerna Raina, Research Analyst for Frost & Sullivan’s Communications Infrastructure and Convergence Program. “Improvement in copper plant and continued deployments of fibre-to-the-home is essential to provide these services."
The consultancy firm believes that successful vendors in the market are those that participate in interoperability events and form partnerships that will help meet CSPs end-to-end requirements in the access network
“Vendors will continue to face challenges related to providing a seamless migration path while serving up the required bandwidth and providing multiple technologies for access including DSL, Ethernet and PON,” commented Becky Watson, Program Manager for Frost & Sullivan’s Communications Infrastructure and Convergence Program. “This is coupled with requirements to provide end-to-end solutions for CSPs who continue to deal with unprecedented and unpredictable technology issues in rolling out IPTV.”
Frost & Sullivan exhorts vendors to “engage with vendor partners to provide end-to-end solutions and provide their clients with pre-integrated solutions” in order to bring services to market quickly.
