Portugal Telecom’s IPTV subscriber numbers for Q1 will “surprise the market”, says new CEO

April 2, 2008 – Portugal Telecom’s new CEO, Zeinal Bava, has revealed that investors should expect positive surprises in subscriber numbers for the first quarter results of the telco’s IPTV service, called “Meo TV”.

Snr. Bava made the comments at a press conference for the launch of Portugal Telecom’s new satellite TV service.  He said that “the numbers for the first quarter in terms of net additions will surprise the market and everyone,” adding that Portugal Telecom is targeting for Meo TV to be available to 90% of the country’s population by the end of this year.

The executive was appointed as the group’s new CEO last week, taking over from Henrique Granadeiro, who remains as Chairman.
