T-Home to cut IPTV subscription fees by 17% and expand features

March 3, 2008 – T-Home, the fixed line/broadband division of Deutsche Telekom, has revealed that it plans to cut prices for its “Entertain” IPTV service by 17% this year and add some interesting new features.

The Entertain Comfort package will now cost €49.95 per month (down from €59.95), including a 16 Mbps broadband connection, 70 channels, video on demand, free calls to German fixed networks and a DVR, with immediate availability.  The Entertain Comfort Plus package will cost €59.95, and the Entertain Premium will cost €69.95 per month, with both packages to be available from the middle of April.

The Entertain service will also be expanded with a DVR programming service that can be used via any Internet-enabled device, and the facility to transfer photos and music from PC to TV will also be added this year, in addition to the option to order a second STB for watching the IPTV service on a second television in the home.  The new MR 100 Media Receiver set-top box will be made available in the middle of April this year for €129.99 and offer time-shift and whole-home access to content stored on the main DVR.

Deutsche Telekom delivers the Entertain services via VDSL and ADSL2+, with VDSL currently available in 27 German cities and towns and ADSL2+ available in 750 cities and towns.  The telco plans to extend the reach of VDSL to another 13 cities this year (Aachen, Boeblingen, Braunschweig, Erfurt, Kassel, Magdeburg, Moenchengladbach, Neuss, Oldenburg, Regensburg, Saarbruecken, Ulm and Wuerzburg), and increase its ADSL2+ coverage to a total of 1,000 cities.
