Telefónica O2 passes 80,000 subscribers for O2 TV
February 18, 2008 – Czech operator Telefónica O2 has announced that it has passed 80,000 subscribers for its IPTV service “O2 TV”, in addition to reaching 63 channels offered and the introduction of two new channel packages.
The new channel packages are O2 TV Styl Plus, intended for fashion fans and offering TV Deko, TV Paprika, Zone Club and Fashion TV; and O2 TV Hudba Plus, featuring the music channels VH1, VH1 Classic, MTV2, MTV Base and Music Box.
“Since its very launch, O2 TV has provided a premium service which outperforms the incumbent cable and satellite pay-TV provider,” said Michal Táborský, Head of IPTV services for O2. “With its current 6% pay-TV market share, the O2 TV service contributed to the growth of the pay-TV market in the Czech Republic in 2007 in a situation when cable penetration has been stagnating... The demand has not only been generated from the existing customer base, but there has also been an acquisition of new customers previously without fixed line and ADSL.”
Mr. Táborský added that the success of O2 TV has been “mainly driven through multiple factors including attractive double-play and triple-play packages, convenient structure of TV channel packages (basic and buy-through) motivating to penetration +30% buy-through service, VOD from 3 majors (Sony Pictures, Warner Bros, Disney International) and improving the user experience, supported also by an easy self-installation package.”
New and existing O2 TV customers can add the new channel packages for the price of CZK 1 (US$0.05) for the first three months.
