Belgacom confirms HD broadcasts for IPTV service
February 8, 2008 – Belgian operator Belgacom has confirmed that it will start broadcasts of high-definition programmes on its “Belgacom TV” IPTV service this April.
The HD broadcasts will require a VDSL2 line, which Belgacom says will be available to 60% of Belgian homes by this April. It is also expected that the new network will enable customers to connect a second TV to the service.
According to reports, Alcatel-Lucent has been updating the infrastructure for the service and Nokia Siemens Networks has been developing the set-top boxes.
