APAC region to outstrip Europe in global IPTV market, says report
February 6, 2008 – A new report from research firm RNCOS forecasts that while the global IPTV market is currently dominated by Europe, the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region will soon emerge as a stronger competitor, before outpacing Europe in ‘coming years’.
The report, entitled “Global IPTV- Market Analysis and Forecast to 2011”, also predicts that the number of broadband subscribers will take a sharp spike in the APAC region and grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 91%.
Six countries in the APAC region were found to come in the world’s top twenty rankings for strong broadband penetration as measured by the International telecommunications Union (ITU) – South Korea, Taiwan, Japan, Singapore and Macao. However India and China will join this six soon as the number of broadband subscriptions in these two countries is also rising sharply, including in rural areas. The Philippines is also expected to join the list soon.
