Telecom Argentina plans to start testing IPTV in June
February 6, 2008 – Telecom Argentina (TEO) plans to start technical tests of its IPTV service in the country this June, according to reports in local paper El Cronista.
TEO told the newspaper it will not commercially launch the service until the government permits telcos to provide broadcasting services, as both TEO and rival Telefonica de Argentina are awaiting changes to current legislations to allow this.
Local analyst Enrique Carrier, Director of consultancy Carrier y Asociados, commented that there is no indication however that the law is likely to be changed this year, and that this process will be slow as there are many interests involved in the issue.
Telecom Argentina’s IPTV Project Manager, Alejandra Rico, spoke at the recent IPTV World Forum Latin America event held in Rio de Janeiro earlier this month – to request the conference presentation materials please click here
