Hanaro Telecom selects Alcatel-Lucent’s GPON FTTH solution to deliver IPTV and HDTV
December 14, 2007 – Korean telco Hanaro Telecom has selected Alcatel-Lucent’s Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) Fibre to the Home (FTTH) solution to enable the delivery of IPTV, including high-definition content, video on demand (VOD), high speed Internet access and interactive multimedia services to its subscribers.
Under the terms of the contract, Alcatel-Lucent will deploy the 7342 Intelligent Services Access Manager Fibre to the Home (ISAM FTTU) solution, designed specifically for packet-based voice convergence and IPTV services. The solution can deliver any mix of voice, video or data over a single fibre that terminates at the subscriber’s premise, with each PON line supporting 2.5Gbps downstream. Alcatel Lucent has partnered with Sandeul Networks for the project, with the latter to dedicate its support on service delivery including items such as installation and integration.
“As we embark into the era of IPTV and HDTV, the household demand for high bandwidth broadband services with the right quality of service is gaining importance,” said Chan-Woong Park, Senior Vice President of Network Technology Unit at Hanaro Telecom. “This is something we can deliver by deploying Alcatel-Lucent’s GPON solution. By partnering with Alcatel-Lucent, we will continue to focus on deploying new and advanced service offerings, providing reliable and premium connectivity services to meet our customers’ requirements.”
Alcatel-Lucent reports that it is engaged in over 70 FTTx projects around the world, of which more than 55 are GPON.
