AT&T targets 1mn subscribers to U-verse service by end-2008

December 13, 2007 – The President of AT&T group, John Stankey, has said in a presentation to Wall Street analysts last Tuesday that the operator’s U-verse IPTV service will reach the 1mn subscribers milestone by the end of next year.

The service had 126,000 subscribers at the end of the third quarter of this year, and is averaging 10,000 installs per week at the moment.  AT&T added that it aims to increase this to 40,000 installs per week by the end of 2008.

Mr Stankey affirmed the company’s commitment to U-verse at the presentation, saying that it intends to “dramatically grow” the service over the next couple of years as a direct competitor to cable.  The operator recently increased its spending estimate for U-verse in the 2007- 08 period by $500mn to $4.5-5bn.
