Tiscali launches IPTV service in Italy
December 12, 2007 – Italian telco Tiscali has launched its IPTV service in Italy, called Tiscali TV, with immediate availability in Cagliari, Milan and Rome.
The service will be expanded across the rest of Italy next year, and will be offered free where available until 31 March 2008. The service features personal video recorder (PVR) functionality and time-shifting, with the entire range of programmes available on-demand for up to 48 hours after broadcast. There are also dedicated video on demand (VOD) channels, and the set-top box supplied is capable of receiving high-definition content as it becomes available.
The service also features My TV, which allows users to create their own personalised programme schedule, as well as Your TV, which features user-generated content. Other special areas created for the service include Area Bambini, which offers interactive channels for children, Area Cinema offering movies divided into themes, and Area Musica, featuring a range of music channels and a channel dedicated to live concerts.
At present there are over 50 channels available on Tiscali TV.
