December 11, 2007 – Cisco has announced that AT&T has chosen the Cisco Carrier Routing System (CRS-1) as the core platform for its IP/MPLS backbone network to support the deployment of advanced residential and business services.

The Cisco CRS-1 is powered by Cisco IOS XR Software, and is designed to enable continuous system operation, service flexibility and system longevity.  The deal is estimated by analysts to be worth more than US$500mn to Cisco over several years.

“High availability and scalability are extremely important to AT&T as our customer base and service portfolios continue to grow,” said Kaveh Hushyar, Senior Vice President of Network Planning & Engineering for AT&T.  “The Cisco CRS-1 meets our and our customers’ needs in this regards, and will help us continue to lead the industry in delivery of residential and business services.”
