More details emerge on Wind’s IPTV deployment
December 7, 2007 – More details have emerged on the deployment of Italian telco Wind’s IPTV service, with Alcatel-Lucent announcing that the service is based on its network solutions and the Microsoft Mediaroom platform.
Alcatel-Lucent has stated that it deployed its Triple Play Service Delivery Architecture (TPSDA) and is the end-to-end network integrator. Alcatel-Lucent’s IPTV solution includes an IP/MPLS network infrastructure based on its 7750 Service Router, and the solution leverages Alcatel-Lucent’s IP Transformation Centers (IPTCs) resources encompassing network, service platforms and OSS/BSS systems.
The service is now available to over 2mn households during its first phase and offers features including video on demand (VOD), personal video recorder (PVR) functionality, multiple picture-in-picture and instant channel change.
“As our long term partner for triple play deployment and IP network transformation, Alcatel-Lucent is helping us to enhance our service offering and pioneer advanced and innovative IPTV features to our customers,” said Khaled Bichara, COO for Wind. “This effort will create sustained value for Wind through increased revenues and customer loyalty, strengthening our competitive position in the Italian marketplace.”
Alcatel-Lucent reports that it has deployed nearly 50 IPTV network integration projects around the world based on its Triple Play Service Delivery Architecture (TPSDA).
