Telia Stofa selects Motorola hybrid set-top boxes for cable/IP video service in Denmark
December 3, 2007 – Motorola has announced that Danish cable operator Telia Stofa has selected its hybrid cable/IP set-top box (STB) for the launch of the latter's cable/IP video service.
Telia Stofa selected the Motorola VIP 1920-9C/IP set-top box, which incorporates KreaTV set-top software. The first new service that Telia Stofa will launch using the hybrid STB will be Video on Demand (VOD), using the IP connection to communicate with the VOD server and the high-speed cable network to deliver the video to the customer’s STB.
“Telia Stofa sees a variety of opportunities in interactive TV,” said Kaj Skov, CTO of Telia Stofa. “User trials indicate that the market is mature for on-demand services, subsequently we are aware of the consumers’ demand for better TV signals and influence on the programme mix. We have developed our own middleware and graphic user interface. It has been a very focused and intense project working together with suppliers of many different components in order to deliver the project in time. In particular, our cooperation with Motorola has been very good.”
Joe Cozzolino, Corporate Vice President of Motorola’s Home & Networks Mobility unit for the EMEA region, added: “The Motorola hybrid solution is perfect for cable providers like Telia Stofa looking to rapidly launch interactive services to an expanding subscriber base with minimal impact to its existing infrastructure.”
