Sony demonstrates IPTV service for PlayStation 3 at Korean electronics show
November 19, 2007 – Sony has reportedly demonstrated the upcoming IPTV service to be offered for the PlayStation 3 (PS3) games console at an electronics show in Korea.
The service will debut with Korean telco KT before the end of this year, with Europe and the US expected to receive the service at some point next year. The service is reportedly based on the Broadcasting Engine software developed by Sony Computer Entertainment Korea (SCEK).
“The alliance of MegaTV and PS3 holds significance in that they opened a new chapter in digital convergence,” said a spokesman for KT. “PS3 users can enjoy a wide array of content including HD drama, film and sports on MegaTV, as well as games.”
