Broadband iTV and OpenTV Enter Exclusive Worldwide Distribution Agreement April 3, 2005 - Hawaii-based Broadband iTV (BBiTV) has announced it has entered into an exclusive, multi-year worldwide distribution agreement with OpenTV Corp. (NASDAQ: OPTV), one of the world's leading interactive television companies. BBiTV's interactive television applications will be marketed through OpenTV's sales and marketing staff, with an initial focus on U.S. cable operators.
"Given the industry-wide respect and broad global distribution of OpenTV, we are particularly encouraged about the prospects to scale our business to both U.S. and international markets," said Eric Tom, Broadband iTV's chief executive officer. "We feel that BBiTV's products and services are a logical extension to OpenTV's suite of interactive digital offerings," said Tim Evard, OpenTV's senior vice president & general manager, marketing and applications products. "BBiTV's focus on community-oriented content is a compelling offering in markets where the local nature of cable carries such a huge potential competitive advantage." "Broadband iTV is focused on the development of television community products that allow individuals and groups to directly participate in and publish content on the local cable operator's interactive TV system," said Milton Diaz, Broadband iTV chief technology officer. Moreover, Diaz said, "This partnership will not only bring new versions of our products onto OpenTV's platform but will accelerate the development of unique new features for BBiTV via access to OpenTV's resources and its relationships with key technology providers, and speed the deployment of those services on cable systems everywhere." In addition to the distribution partnership, OpenTV is making an investment in BBiTV and will be represented on BBiTV's board. http://www.bbitv.com http://www.opentv.com |
