Exclusive – “Very probable” that Telefónica’s Imagenio service will offer 2008 Olympic games in high-definition

October 17, 2007 – Telefónica has told ipTV News that it is “very probable that Imagenio will offer the 2008 Olympic Games in high-definition”, following enquiries into their plans to offer HD content through the IPTV service.

The operator’s communications division said that it has successfully conducted high-definition tests in recent months in Madrid and Barcelona, and since then is interested in offering this type of technology through Imagenio “as soon as possible”.

The Director General of Telefónica España, Antonio Viana-Baptista, said just a few days ago at the 6th Investors Conference held in London that high-definition content will probably be offered by the middle of 2008. 

Imagenio had a reported 450,000 subscribers as of the beginning of this month.
