IBC2007 – Motorola announces shipment of two millionth IP set-top boxSeptember 7, 2007 – Motorola today announced at IBC2007 that it has shipped 2mn IP set-top boxes, five months after the shipment of its one millionth unit.
The two millionth STB was a VIP1510, shipped as part of an order for 150,000 units by Swedish telco TeliaSonera. Motorola is the major supplier of digital STBs for TeliaSonera’s IPTV service, and the operator announced that it had 100,000 subscribers to its IPTV service in May of this year. “The television market is fundamentally changing as consumers demand more choice, more control and more interactivity in the way they access TV,” commented Doug Means, Corporate Vice President of Motorola Home & Network Mobility. “Motorola has a 50-year heritage in the video business and we’re committed to leading the market, helping it grow and ensuring that our customers are armed with the best technology to serve the most demanding of viewers.” A series of acquisitions in the past year have bolstered Motorola’s position in the video market, including Broadbus, Tut Systems, Terayon Systems and Modulus Video. |
