Pakistan’s PTCL to launch IPTV service in October

August 20, 2007 – The Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) intends to launch an IPTV service in the country in October, said Dr. Abdul Jabbar, Director-General of the Pakistan Electronic Media regulatory Authority (Pemra) last Saturday.

“The PTCL has won the first licence to launch IPTV service which would be a landmark development in the country’s telecom industry,” Dr. Jabbar added.  He also said that other companies which meet the set criteria would also be issued such licences.

The PTCL project is supported by Chinese telecom equipment firm Huawei and Netherlands-based content security company Irdeto.  Huawei is to supply the servers and set-top boxes for the project, while Irdeto will provide the content security solutions.
