IOL Broadband to rollout IPTV in 28 cities in India by March 2009August 16, 2007 – Indian IPTV provider IOL Broadband has unveiled plans to rollout IPTV services as part of a triple-play package in 28 cities during the next 18 to 20 months.
“We plan to roll out the services in seven cities in 2007-08 and 21 cities in 2008-09,” said IOL Broadband Director Mahendra Chouhan. “We have an agreement with [Indian telco] BSNL for 59 cities, and depending on the requirements and broadband penetration, we will prioritise them and launch.” Under the agreement between IOL Broadband and BSNL, IOL Broadband will provide the content and market the services, while BSNL will provide access to customers. BSNL Chairman and MD Kuldeep Goyal revealed that his company plans to aggressively expand its broadband network from the current 1mn: “We have ambitious plans for broadband expansion. For the coming three years, we have plans to add six million broadband connections every year.” |
