AT&T to extend U-verse to South Carolina with $250mn investmentAugust 1, 2007 – US operator AT&T has announced plans to bring its U-verse IPTV and broadband service to South Carolina, a state formerly in the territory of BellSouth.
AT&T has pledged that it will invest $250mn “throughout the next several years in fibre network upgrades, further broadband deployment and Internet-based technologies in South Carolina.” These investments will not change AT&T’s projections for capital expenditure this year or next, according to the company.
The announcement follows on the heels of a state law in South Carolina allowing for statewide video service franchises as opposed to individual municipal ones.
AT&T has not yet detailed its plans for the network it obtained in South Carolina by acquiring BellSouth, which deployed fibre-to-the-curb. “AT&T is in the process of implementing the AT&T U-verse network in the Southeast region and plans to provide a comprehensive update later this year,” the company said in a statement. |
