Pirelli selected by Microsoft as technology provider for IPTV

April 20, 2007 - Pirelli Broadband Solutions’ portfolio of hybrid set top boxes will become part of the product offering for Microsoft TV IPTV Edition software platform.

The Pirelli Discus hybrid decoders bring together IPTV and digital terrestrial TV in one multimedia platform. Pirelli’s set-top boxes are based on single-chip technology and support both legacy and new encoding standards such as H.264 and VC1 at both Standard and High Definition.

“By adding Pirelli to the growing list of IPTV Edition ecosystem partners ensures that our service provider customers have access to the best technology providers at every level of the IPTV ecosystem,” said Joe Seidel, worldwide partner ecosystem director, for the Microsoft TV Division at Microsoft. “Our joint efforts and shared commitment to innovation will continue to fuel the acceleration of IPTV deployments.”

Corrado Rocca, Pirelli Broadband Solutions SVP Product Marketing and Development - Access Division, said, “Microsoft is recognized as an innovator and is leading the way in global IPTV deployments. We are delighted to be a technology provider. Our Set Top Box product line offers a state-of-the-art technology suitable for innovative services.” Rocca added, “Ensuring that our set-top boxes support Microsoft IPTV technology adds a fundamental brick to our IPTV solutions portfolio.”
