France Telecom will launch HDTV services late May

April 27th, 2006 - It looks as though France Telecom is going to be the world’s first service provider to deploy HDTV over DSL using advanced encoding, with HD services scheduled for a May 28 launch at the French Open tennis (Roland Garros stadium in Paris). On June 1 an HDTV package will be available from TPS, which distributes its content across the MaLigne TV platform as well as on satellite.

NewNet Telecommunications selects Telrad/Orca  for IPTV in Georgia

April 26th, 2006 – IPTV middleware and application developer Orca Interactive is working with Telrad Networks to provide ten large urban areas in Georgia (the country) with an IP/MPLS-based voice, data and video networking system. It is being deployed for Georgia’s second largest telecom operator, NewNet Telecommunications (NewNet).

ANT Galio integrates with Quative IPTV Service Delivery Platform

April 26th, 2006 - ANT plc, which provides client software and solutions for the IPTV, hybrid TV and consumer electronics industries, has integrated its ANT Galio system with the new Quative IPTV Service Delivery Platform. Quative is the new company within the Kudelski group that provides a platform upon which IP video services can be built.

Swiss cable operator deploys FTTH-based IPTV with Kasenna

April 25th, 2006 – Television Sierre, the Swiss cable TV and IPTV provider (and subsidiary of power utility and communications service provider Sierre-Energy SA) is expanding its IP-based video services with the help of Kasenna’s PortalTV application suite for IPTV.

Texas FTTP operator uses Irdeto CA to protect premium content

April 24th, 2006 – Optical Entertainment Network (OEN) has chosen the Irdeto IPTV content security solution to protect its IP-based fibre-to-the-premise (FTTP)  video offering in Houston, Texas. The Irdeto solution will protect video content for OEN's FISION triple-play services, which includes HDTV.

Amino targets Q3 for first deployments of H.264 HDTV set-top box

April 24th, 2006 - IPTV set-top box supplier Amino Communications has introduced a new MPEG-4 Part 10 (H.264/AVC), HDTV capable receiver. The AmiNET130 is said to give service providers a cost-effective means to deliver end-to-end HDTV as broadcast (multicast) or on-demand content, and with multi-room capability.

Telefónica prepares for expansion and MPEG-4 migration with Grass Valley ViBE encoders

April 22nd, 2006 - Spanish telecom operator Telefónica has ordered MPEG-4 Part 10 SD and HDTV encoding platforms from Thomson’s Grass Valley division, plus other equipment and systems integration from Thomson, as it prepares to expand its Imagenio IPTV service across the whole of Spain.

Nagravision to secure HanseNet’s Alice IPTV service

April 21st, 2006 - The Telecom Italia subsidiary HanseNet has selected content protection specialist Nagravision to secure its Alice IPTV service in Germany.

April 21st, 2006 - Quative Limited, a Kudelski Group company, has launched an IPTV service delivery platform that allows operators to provide a seamless IPTV service to subscribers' set-top boxes and other devices, based on an open client software model.

HanseNet selects ADB’s HD-ready set-tops for Alice IPTV service

April 21st, 2006 - Advanced Digital Broadcast (ADB) is supplying its ADB-3800TW HD-ready set-top boxes to German telecoms operator HanseNet for the launch of its IPTV service, which is being marketed under the ‘Alice’ brand name.

NRK launches 24-Hour IPTV and Internet news service on OmniBus iTX automation

April 20th, 2006 - NRK, the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation, has purchased a full-featured iTX transmission system for support of a new 24-hour local IPTV and Internet news service from OmniBus Systems. The software-based automation system will enable NRK to launch a service consisting of local news content, captions, and graphics run in a news-wheel format with little or no user intervention.
