The number of broadband subscribers worldwide will increase by around 50% over the next five years to reach 940mn by the end of 2018, with Asia-Pacific driving much of this growth according to new figures from UK research firm Point Topic. -

CDN World Summit explores new caching and delivery initiatives with all eyes on Rio 2016
The 2012 CDN World Summit was one of the biggest yet, bringing together the customary mix of network operators, manufacturers, traditional CDNs, content owners and other industry players for three-days of presentations, panel discussions and, of course, networking.

OTT costs?
A recent report by IHS Screen Digest predicts reveals that the costs of OTT will rise to uncompetitive levels when they need to be scaled up to broadcast volume levels: the reasoning being that traditional broadcasting is delivered via multicasting and that OTT is delivered via unicasting.

IBC 2012: Taking care of business
This year’s IBC event lacked a big, overarching theme, or new “wow” topic to get journalists, analysts and market-watchers foaming at the mouth. And that’s no bad thing. It’s the sign of a maturing industry, and as a result, the show retained a healthy focus on improving existing products and trying to get the big things – multiscreen, OTT, hybrid – right. Nevertheless, there was plenty on show that highlighted that the market remains miles away from anything resembling certainty.
