Product Review: BluWare by Infinate Blue

Infinate Blu now provide end to end cloud based IPTV solutions

Infinate Blu started developing OTT systems back in 2004 when IPTV was in its infancy. Infinate Blu CEO, David Wray, was then the founder of Global Digital Broadcast (GDBTV), a middleware startup based in Brighton, UK. By 2007 GDBTV were powering the most ambitious OTT hybrid network in the UK. A fore-runner to BT Vision and YouView, PlayTV was a real competitor to the Cable and Satellite operators and gained traction with Cable and Wireless in their bid to offer a triple play service.

Fast forward to 2014 and David Wray has merged his middleware and app development team, EightZero Digital with a well-known set top box manufacturer,Telergy Hong Kong. Now named Infinate Blu, the company has produced a streamlined total solution for OTT network owners.

This year at TVConnect in London, Infinate Blu will launch BluWare; an aptly named cloud-based complete IPTV solution. The content and subscriber management system for operators is coupled with a consumer-facing user interface, enabling subscribers to view on set top box, iOS, Android and many other devices. Infinate Blu manufacture their own Linux and Android boxes in both OTT and hybrid form. The business case for any operator is minimum capital risk and maximum ROI. BluWare saves looking for middleware, set top box and app vendors with a one-stop shop.

Operators need to know that their middleware vendor isn’t going to hold them to ransom so BluWare has been designed to run independently of the Infinate Blu hardware and can be used with multiple set top box vendors. The management dashboard is a breeze to use and makes light work of data crunching and video archiving.

David Wray explains, “Infinate Blu are currently manufacture set top boxes for OTT services that require ease of use and minimum hassle. Being based in Hong Kong with a factory across the border in Shenzhen we have direct control over the process. Our BluWare developers are in the UK so it is centrally based for all timezones, meaning we can respond very quickly to any customization requirements in our cloud middleware”.

The idea of a one stop solution for content providers is a welcome addition the world of IPTV, especially for those smaller, less established providers who previously had to jostle between multiple companies to create the service they required for their content. This involved such divisions as manufacturers, middleware developers and CDNs to name a few.

“We can still provide these parts to ‘fill in the gaps’ of course, but we mainly focus on a complete solution so that all the content providers have to worry about is, of course, the content.”  David Wray stated.

Any service in today’s IPTV industry that works to simplify the end-to-end process, while guaranteeing high levels of procedure, is a welcome sight, while the added flexibility and no-nonsense offerings are set to make IB a real contender in the industry.

Infinate Blu is headquartered in Hong Kong, manufacturing in Shenzhen (China), with Design and Coding offices in the UK.
