LG is set to become the latest manufacturer to offer the subscription-free service, Freeview Play, with plans to launch it on webOS 3.0 devices later this year.

Freeview Play currently combines catch-up TV from the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5, on-demand services and live television with more services due in 2016.

“We recognise that as part of our efforts to deliver the best overall premium viewing experience we need to offer our customer’s choice; the choice to watch what they want when they want it,” comments Andrew Mackay, COO LG Electronics UK and Nordics. “We’re delighted to partner with Freeview Play as it enables LG to offer customers the best content, the best user experience and the best displays, culminating in a supreme overall viewing experience.”

Technical development of Freeview Play, including product specification, is being led by Digital UK.
