YouTube unveils SVOD service YouTube Red

YouTube has announced the launch of YouTube Red, an ad-free $9.99-a-month subscription version of the giant video sharing website.

Scheduled for a October 28 release, YouTube Red will allow subscribers to enjoy videos across all of YouTube without ads, and also allow them to save videos to watch offline on mobile device and play videos in the background.

In addition, next year will see YouTube Red offer member-only access to new, original shows and movies from some of YouTube’s leading creators.

“We’re working to bring YouTube Red and our YouTube Music, Gaming and Kids apps to more countries soon,” reads a blog post from YouTube. “And don’t worry! The free, ad-supported version of YouTube we all know and love isn’t going anywhere. You’ll still be able to enjoy YouTube, along with the YouTube Kids, Gaming and Music apps free of charge. But with YouTube Red, you’ll be able to support the people who make your favorite videos while watching what you want, when you want, on any device you want, uninterrupted.”

At next month’s OTTtv World Summit (9th – 12th November 2015 Millennium Gloucester Hotel, London), the likes of MEC, Hotwolf, Diagonal View and Studio71 will be looking at ‘The impact of MCN’s and the YouTube generation’. Click here to download the free brochure.
