Hi Kirill – tell us about SPB TV’s IBC presence this year..
We’re introducing a number of innovations that change the whole mobile TV experience for both operators and consumers, including selecting DTS to provide high-quality audio solutions. Our new TV platform offers users instant access to live and on-demand content seamlessly flowing across time, location and device. Apart from impressive performance, graphics and connectivity, our new in-home TV viewing solution comes with an innovative remote control and personalisation features.
What’s motivating this strong emphasis on mobile TV?
Our key focus is still on emerging markets. As a rule, new technologies launch and develop there much faster than in most countries with advanced economies. The majority of Asian mobile operators are interested in mobile TV because they want to return investment in the infrastructure and monetise their Internet traffic, and mobile TV is a sure way to achieve that goal.
What new opportunities is this changing ecosystem creating for advertisers, and how are you helping to facilitate their taking advantage of this?
Everything that is in anyway ‘mobile’ can be characterised as ‘personal’. It means that everything mobile, and particularly mobile advertising, should be customised to the user: their gender, age and location, and interests. The best technologies provide viewers with advertising that is actually useful to them.
What will be the main hot topics will be at IBC?
In the context of the industry regulation, the goal of making IPTV equal to traditional broadcasting is quite urgent. As for technology, I can assume this year the main focus will still be on improving the quality of video. At the moment, the market is saturated enough, so the need now is not in more innovative technologies, but rather in using and improving the existing ones.
