Pay-TV operators should not cede initiative to OTTs when it comes to 4K, says Jon Cobb, President of Software and Services at Pace, in his opening keynote at this morning’s TV Connect.

The keynote, entitled ‘Building Quality of Experience: the Next Stage of Successful OTT,’ covered a number of trends deemed to be presently affecting TV Customer Satisfaction, including video quality, home networking, installation and troubleshooting, and user experience.

The question of 4K/UHD was raised in the section of the keynote covering video quality. “Ultra HD is here,” he told the audience, pointing out that penetration was expected to rise 10% by the end of the year, costs were falling and mobile UHD was “on the way,” and sounding out a warning that the huge interest would be neglected at pay-TV operators’ peril. They should not, he stressed, let the likes of  Netflix continue to lead the way.
