Leading European broadcaster Sky is developing a new version of its NOW TV box for launch later this year, part of a policy for 2015 that sees it place a special emphasis on its OTT services.
“We’ll have a major marketing campaign rolling out with the new look and feel for the brand,” explained Jeremy Darroch, Group Chief Executive Officer, in the course of yesterday’s earnings call. “We’ll be updating our user interface to drive engagement and consumption and we’ve got an outstanding line up of new exclusive content, which will bring to the next generation of NOW TV box which will also upgrade later in the year.”
Darroch furthermore revealed that in Italy this spring, Sky was planning the launch of a “new IP TV product” in partnership with regional telco Telecom Italia, with a view to marketing its content to around 3.5 million Telecom Italia broadband customers and the many Italian households unable to install a satellite dish.
