Telefónica remains Latin America’s fifth largest pay-TV group

Spanish telco Telefónica remains Latin America’s fifth largest pay-TV group, according to new research from Dataxis.

As of Q3 2014, the Spanish company ranked behind America Móvil, DirecTV Latin America, Televisa and Clarín, with 3.19 million pay-TV subscribers in the region.

This figure also includes the company’s Over-the-top (OTT) paid accounts.

Telefónica’s traditional pay-TV services are offered in Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Peru and Venezuela. Additionally, the group has launched OTT VOD services in Argentina, Brazil and Chile.

According to Dataxis, between Q4 2007 and Q3 2014 the Spanish company’s Latin American subscriber base grew 125.2%. As of Q3 2014, the region represented 66.9% of Telefónica’s global pay-TV subscribers.
