Victoria Jaye, Head of TV Content for the BBC’s groundbreaking online service iPlayer, has announced 16 new titles that will be exclusive to the catch-up service in 2015.
These include nine original comedy shorts will go live on BBC iPlayer to mark Valentine’s Day, while UK pop star Tinie Tempah will host his iPlayer exclusive Private View of Alexander McQueen’s forthcoming exhibition ‘Savage Beauty’ – a collaboration with the V&A.
The commissions follow the success of the first raft of exclusive iPlayer content in 2014, and are a further example of a tendency at the BBC towards expressly digital content, further evidenced in its plans to make BBC 3 an entirely online channel.
“BBC iPlayer presents a huge creative opportunity to push the boundaries of storytelling and engage audiences in new ways,” comments Victoria Jaye, Head of TV Content for BBC iPlayer. “Our exclusive content for 2015 demonstrates how established and emerging British artists, along with cultural organisations, are seizing this opportunity to create bold, original new work. This is a glimpse of iPlayer’s next wave of innovation.”
Marina Kalkanis, Head of Core Services, Programmes On Demand, BBC and Nick Coulter, Head of Digital, BBC Worldwide will be appearing at TV Connect (28th – 30th April 2015 ExCel, London)
