Netflix has received seven nominations for the 2015 Golden Globe Awards, divided between House of Cards, Orange is the New Black and Derek.
The announcement follows the stinging observation of CBS chief research officer David Poltrack that the internet TV giant had now gone a year without a “true hit programme” and that it appeared no nearer a “magic formula” for content success than its linear rivals.
While the spate of nominations hardly contradicts the assertion, they’ll certainly be welcomed as evidence that Netflix’s original content remains competitive.
“We are honored to receive seven Golden Globe nominations today. House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, and the remarkable storytellers and ensembles that make them possible, have blazed a trail for TV in the new millennium, and we are proud to see their creative accomplishments awarded this week,” says Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer for Netflix. “I couldn’t be prouder to see Taylor, Uzo, Robin, Ricky, and Kevin rewarded for their fearless work.”
