Google has come up with a much easier way to show a friend a YouTube favourite on their big screen, via a new feature on its Chromecast streaming stick.

The new service, called ‘guest mode’,  allows casting from Android devices without the user having to connect to the household WiFi network.

Much more convenient than having to tap out a dreaded WiFi key, users will see the cast icon in Google Cast Ready apps, even if WiFi is turned off on the supported Android phone.

Guest mode is only available for Android devices running Android 4.3 (JB MR2) or higher. Guest mode is not supported on iOS devices.
