European OTT service will make 4K ultra high definition (UHD) movies available on from 1st December.

This high-quality content will be initially available in Germany and France, and the company is currently in talks to bring the 4K catalogue to the other countries where is operating, the UK and Spain, soon. The catalogue will also be available in Italy in the following weeks.

This announcement coincides with’s official launch in Germany, completing a successful year of European expansion for the company. On top of the countries mentioned above, plans to launch in a further 11 countries by the end of next year.

“More and more of our customers are beginning to demand movies in 4K, as TVs with the technology become commonplace in the home” comments Jordi Miró, CTO of “We expect 4K will become increasingly popular towards the end of the year and into 2015, as consumers in Europe buy new TVs around Christmas time, upgrade to Smart TVs, and 4K prices begin to drop as more devices come to the market.”

Sales in the 4K device market are expected to grow rapidly over the next few years. Futuresource Consulting forecasts show 4K TV sets will account for 5% of the global TV market by the end of 2014, and rise to 42% by 2018.
