Chelsea: one of the teams scheduled for Xmas football on BT Sport

IP&TV News is rarely more grateful for the very existence of football than in the midst of that interminable snooze-fest known as “Christmas”…

Well, this year BT Sport is to treat viewers to some engrossing Christmas and New Year football as it screens two exclusively live Barclays Premier League matches on both Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

The channels will feature both of the early favourites in the race for the title on January 1, with the vital Tottenham Hotspur v Chelsea showdown preceded by current champions Manchester City’s home fixture against Sunderland.

The Boxing Day fixtures, which are popular dates with fans, feature Manchester United taking on Newcastle United at 3pm, followed by the London derby Arsenal v Queens Park Rangers at 5.30pm.

Simon Green, head of BT Sport, comments: “We will be treating BT Sport fans to a Christmas feast of football again this year. Our double headers on Boxing Day and New Year’s Day last year were extremely popular with football fans, and we are presenting viewers with the same gift this year.”
