Telenet to rival Belgian Netflix launch with content push

Liberty-backed Telenet has announced it will be producing its own television series in collaboration with the production company, deMENSEN. ‘Chaussée d’amour’ will be an exciting Flemish drama series. Direction has been entrusted to Nathalie Bastyns. The series will consist of 10 episodes, which will all be available at the same time during the course of 2016 for Rex and Rio customers.

It’s a double first for the Low Countries: both the fact that an operator is financing a series substantially, and the fact that all episodes of the series will be available at the same time. In this way, Telenet is catering for the changing viewing habits and expectations of the modern television viewer.

“In our discussions with the production companies, we came to the conclusion that there is an enormous wealth of creativity and that even more ideas are shelved than can be produced annually,” comments Inge Smidts, senior VP Residential Marketing. “We then decided to kill two birds with 1 stone.”
