Moviestar launches new DVR service with 350 hour capacity

Subscribers to Telefónica’s pay-TV service Movistar now have access to up to 350 hours of personal online recording through their set-top boxes with a new service that allows simultaneous use of all channels.

An innovative ‘mosaic’ TV feature for major sporting events also allows customers to select between six different streams of the live action. The new cloud-based TV feature has been enabled by Alcatel-Lucent and Telefónica.

“As Telefónica expands its fiber-to-the-home network it is also expanding its Movistar TV customer base,” comments Roque Lozano, President of Alcatel-Lucent Spain and Global Account Manager for Telefonica. “The success of the new features has been such that we are already exploring how we can increase the capacity and efficiency of the platform to handle the rapid growth in subscribers expected in the next year.”
