Movie and TV streaming service Wuaki.tv today announced the company will further expand into new European territories during 2014, launching its quality streaming service in France over the summer and in Germany and Italy before the end of the year.
The new countries will join Spain and the UK, where Wuaki.tv has been live since 2010 and 2013 respectively. This signals the beginning of an aggressive international expansion plan, which will see Wuaki.tv launch in 11 European countries by the end of 2015.
Wuaki.tv offers a wide selection of on-demand movie and TV show content for rental and purchase through connected devices. Wuaki.tv users can watch content on a range of devices, including Xbox games consoles, Smart TVs, tablets, mobile phones, laptops and PCs.
In mid-2012, having attracted over 1.3million users, Wuaki.tv was acquired by the Japanese e-commerce giant Rakuten, joining companies including instant messaging service Viber, Viki, a VOD company based on a collaborative model of content translation, and the e-commerce platforms Price Minister and Play.com, within the Rakuten Group.
Wuaki.tv will also increase the number of employees, currently 85 strong in the Spain and UK, employed by the company before the end of the year, in order to successfully drive the planned European expansion.
