NBC go to thePlatform for Olympic OVP

NBC Olympics has selected thePlatform, the leading white-label video publishing company, as its central, online video platform (OVP) during its production of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia, from February 6-February 23. The announcement was made yesterday by Rick Cordella, SVP & GM, Digital Media, NBC Sports Group, and Ian Blaine, CEO of thePlatform.

thePlatform’s mpx system manages and publishes all on-demand video plays across computers, tablets and smartphones for NBC Olympics.  thePlatform serves as the on-demand video management system for all 98 events, medal ceremonies, opening and closing ceremonies, athlete interviews and profiles, and more.

“NBC Olympics is the pinnacle of sports programming, with a profound ability to captivate the minds and hearts of millions of viewers instantly,” says Ian Blaine, CEO of thePlatform. “We are very proud to have been entrusted by NBC Olympics to help enable them to provide complete video coverage of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. Working together, we’re confident that millions of viewers will enjoy unparalleled, on-demand access to Olympics video coverage via NBCOlympics.com, and the NBC Sports Live Extra mobile app.”

Specifically, NBC Olympics uses mpx to upload video, manage metadata, set viewing and advertising policies, publish video to NBCOlympics.com, and the NBC Sports Live Extra mobile app, and syndicate video to third-party sites. In addition, mpx provides NBC Olympics’ technical teams with a simple Web-based console to dynamically manage their video library, along with superior enterprise-grade reliability required for a deployment of this magnitude
